Acrylic Paint

7_27_15-1

I prefer oil medium to acrylic. Oil paints give me more flexibility to mix the colors on the canvas and create smoother transition between colors. However, I have a bad habit of mixing colors too much and create muddy colors. So whenever I like to maintain the clear and crisp color I usually use acrylic paint. But the downside of using acrylic paint is painting becomes very tight. I am going to paint this image again with oil and see what will happen.

Lake in summer

Summer-lake-b

It is simply hot here. We go to swim in the morning and take a nap in the afternoon. What did people do when the AC systems were not available?

Water Lily

water-lily3

This is an image of the first water lily bloomed this summer. It is very mysterious and have almost dream like qualities in it. When we are not looking at flowers, I am sure that there are strange things going on in our backyard.

Misty morning

Misty-Morning-1c

I woke up early in the morning and went to the nearby lake. The mist on the lake was so mysterious and enigmatic that I felt like I were still in my dream. There were many different kind of birds but very quiet and still.

a new marble

Egg-Holder-and-Marbles-3c

My dearest friend Judy has so many neat stuffs. She has such a great eye for unique and beautiful things. When I go to her home, I feel like I am in wonder land. Finally I got a few antique and art marbles for myself. The largest one on right is one of the new ones. But too much excitement and too many marble paintings. I need to move onto the landscape painting again.

Lighting

Egg-holder-and-marbles-2a

This image is very similar to the one I painted a couple days ago. But the lighting are different. The previous one was set on my desk top and its lighting was controlled. This image was set outside under the sun because I thought that the strong sun light might enrich the transparent brilliant colors. It did not work out like I was hoping for. Instead I had a hard time painting this image because there were not so much shadows and drama created by the values. I am going to try one more time this image set under the controlled light today and see if it works better.

An egg holder and marbles

Egg-holder-and-marbles-2

I have a pair of beautiful antique egg holders. When I played with one of them and marbles, they look very  pretty together. So here they are sitting on my desk.
