Corvette

9_2_16

There is a small but very nice toy store on the King Street, downtown Charleston. We happened to park our car right in front of this store. Of course, I needed to go inside. There were so many cool toys in the store. When I saw this tiny red car, I had to have this one. Terry said that it was a copy of 1957 corvette. OK…whatever it was, this looked good! Now I needed to paint my little car. I placed it on the map with some coins and pencils. I think that this image will be good for the advertisement for Charleston tourism.

Lewis Carroll

8_28_16

I read “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” in Japanese when I was a kid. I remember that I enjoyed the story very much. But when I read this in English again, I realized how well written this story is. Since then this book becomes one of my favorite. I usually read the instructional book or articles, but when I got tired of those kind I go back to those old masters and enjoy the beautiful languages.

Summer Afternoon

8_27_16

I went to the bookstore yesterday. There were many art magazines on the shelves. I grabbed several of them and sit on the most comfortable chair in the store. Those magazines are filed with beautiful and strong art works. I spent a wonderful afternoon in the corner of the Barns and Noble.

A butterfly

8_23_16

I do not remember so many wise men’s words. But one line from the writing by Confucius stays in my mind for many years. I think it is from Confucius..but anyway. When he was in the field covered with beautiful flowers, he saw a butterfly floating over those colorful flowers. Then he started to confuse or think very deeply the reality he was in. He thought that he might be a butterfly itself and observing the world instead of being a man. The meaning of this line can be taken in anyway, but sometimes the reality becomes unreal and a dream or mystery becomes more real than anything else. Maybe I am a butterfly flying through the southern garden.

Black Water Cypress

8_19_16

Well, I built me a raft and she’s ready for floatin’
Ol’ Mississippi, she’s callin’ my name
Catfish are jumpin’, that paddle wheel thumpin’
Black water keep rollin’ on past just the same

from the song by the Doobie Brothers

Standing Cypress

8_16_16

The cypress trees are magical trees. I have never seen any trees grow in water before I came to SC. It is amazing to see so many cypress standing in swamp. It is actually very odd experience for me to walk through the passageway in the cypress garden. There are many white Herons, turtles, and alligators. I feel like I were in the primitive age.

Two days ago, I posted that I had a hard time finishing one painting. This is the one which drove me up to the wall. Somehow I finished it. I think that I can still keep painting this image, but …it is done!  I usually enjoy solving the visual problems, but not for this one. My little patience for painting is probably caused by this extremely hot weather. It is a time for a glass of wine.

Angels Trumpets

Angels-trumpet-1

I have been working on one painting for past four days. It does not go anywhere. I tried very hard to make visually sense. But it does not.  I am going to stop painting this trouble one and start new one tomorrow. I do not like to say that I quit this image but sometimes I need to walk away to keep my sanity together. “Sigh!!” Meanwhile, the Angels trumpet are blooming beautifully in our backyard. There are more than 40 flowers are blooming now. Those flowers are huge and their fragrance are heavenly. We are going to watch the metro shower late tonight standing middle of those incredible fragrance and will feel our universe.

Rainy Morning

8_5_16

It was raining when I woke up this morning. It was very nice. I made a cup of coffee and enjoyed a quiet morning. I have just finished this painting and thinking about a new one. The hardest thing in painting process for me is to find the new subject matter which has a little drama. It might be just for me, but I like to see something in painting. It can be a play of light, some hidden stories, or interesting space.  Right now my brain is totally blank. I think I will pick up a mystery novel by MC Beaton and go to bed. I will start a new image tomorrow morning.

Cloudy Afternoon, Low Tide

8_1_16-c

The beaches in South Carolina are beautiful. I love to walk on the wet sand and feel the wind on my face. It is Summer. When I close my eye and feel the salty air, I always remember so many summers I spent on the beach in Japan with my family. It is my happy childhood memory I cherish. Now I come to the beach in SC with my husband and enjoy happy present summer days.
